8 Reasons Why You Need Micellar Water in Your Cleansing Routine

Spread the love

Have you heard about this recent trend called micellar water?

If not then listen up, as it’s about time that you familiarised yourself with this product that could soon become one of your favourite staple products in your beauty regime, and your go-to cleanser.

Although micellar water has been around for decades, not many people are familiar with this miracle water which is also known as cleansing water.

However, unlike your everyday cleanser, micellar water doesn’t need to be rinsed off after.

What is Micellar Water?

Micellar water, pronounced me-sell-air, originates from France and is a soap-free cleansing water that doesn’t need rinsing. The French women were the first to begin using this product when the water in France was too awful and harsh to use on their face.

Even now that the water and plumbing in France have dramatically improved, micellar water is still widely used by many of the women in France who wouldn’t be without this cleansing water!

Micellar water is a gentle alternative to other harsh cleansers and facial wipes and it is made up from micelles, which are small balls of cleansing oil which float in a gentle water.

On first sight, it may just look like ordinary water in a bottle, but don’t be fooled! It works like magic on your skin and is recommended by many makeup artists and models, and unlike other toners, micellar water doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals or alcohol. Your skin really will thank you for giving this product a go.

Micellar water is best used by people who have dry and sensitive skin types because of its gentle and hydrating properties, and the good news is micellar water is widely available so you don’t need to take a special trip to France to purchase a bottle!

How Micelles Work…

A micelle (cleansing agent) is a formation of many molecules made up of oil

Working together in tiny clusters…

The micelles trap and remove all impurities from the skin with no need for rinsing

The microscopic micelle molecules work by effectively lifting makeup, dirt, oil and any other impurities from the surface of the skin.

1. Effectively Removes Makeup

Micellar water is great for removing all traces of makeup and impurities and will not leave any oily residue behind which other cleansers tend to do. To use, simply saturate a cotton wool pad in micellar water and wipe across your face, eyes and lips to remove your makeup, and some micellar waters even remove waterproof mascara. To remove heavier makeup from the eye area, lightly press the cotton wool pad to your eyes and hold it there for a few seconds before wiping away. Because of is effectiveness you don’t need to rub it into the skin.

2. It’s Hydrating and Nourishing to The Skin

As it contains no harsh chemicals or alcohol which tend to dry out the skin, micellar water is extremely hydrating and nourishing and won’t affect the skins natural protective barrier,  keeping your skin feeling perfectly balanced and hydrated all day long.

3. Especially Beneficial For Sensitive Skin

Micellar water is especially beneficial to those of you with dry and sensitive skin, as it has hydrating properties that won’t irritate the skin. Micellar water is even gentle enough to use on the delicate eye area and will leave your skin feeling fresh. You will be wishing you had found this miracle product years ago!

4. Will Leave you With Visibly Clearer Skin

Micellar water contains cleansing agents that that naturally remove sebum and wax-based properties from your skin which are known to cause breakouts. Because the water is extremely gentle on the skin, it won’t cause any irritation or redness and will leave your skin looking radiant, spot free and visibly clearer.

5. Use It to Correct Makeup Mishaps

Do you find yourself sometimes needing a quick fix with your makeup mishaps such as your lipstick or eyeliner and not sure what to use? Then fret no more – micellar water is your answer. Simply dip a cotton bud or cotton wool pad into the micellar water and use it to erase any makeup mishaps that have occurred without the need to start again.

6. Refresh’s Your Skin

Micellar water is especially beneficial when you return from a heavy night out and you’re feeling too lazy or tired to wash your face. Simply leave a bottle and some cotton wool pads on your bedside table, so you can remove your makeup from the comfort of your bed and by morning your skin will be perfectly clear and fresh.

7. Great For Travel

Because Micellar water acts as an all-in-one makeup remover, cleanser and toner, there is no need for separate products. It’s also perfect when there is no running water to hand to wash or splash on your face, just use your micellar water!

8. Great For Post-workout

Micellar water is great to use on your skin after you have been to the gym or done a workout at home.  It’s very important to clean your skin immediatly after working out, otherwise, your skin will retain the build-up of sweat, oil and dirt which will lead to clogged pores and will affect your skins natural PH, leading to skin breakouts.
